| The first ever national quilting event “Quilt Pink Day” was held last year on 30th September 2006 and it was sponsored by such names as Better Homes – American Patchwork & Quilting, C & T Publishing, Viking, Fiskars, The Fabric Shop Network, Moda Fabrics, and a few others ,for their fight against breast cancer, and all quilters were invited to take part by making a pink quilt block which would later be added to other quilters blocks and these quilts were to be auctioned online to raise funds for their cause. The proceeds of this benefits would go to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Quilters were asked to locate a participating quilt shop on the internet or one in their neighborhood on Saturday 30th September 2006 “Quilt Pink Day”and were given the opportunity to create a pink and white quilt block which was to be added to those created by other quilters around the world, which when completed was to be sent to the American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine where it was to be auctioned online in the Spring of 2007. On April 5tth 2007, the six month campaign auction was launched on the ebay 's website, with weekly auctions starting each week, and there are expected to be almost 4,000 handmade “pink quilts” to be auctioned, displaying the talents and hopes as quilters all over the globe unite in support for the fight against breast cancer. If you would like to see or maybe bid on some of these beautiful pink quilts you can visit ebay's website where you will be able to see some of the most beautiful handmade quilts from hundreds of the most experienced quilters from all over the globe. You may be wondering how this “pink quilt” quilting benefit came about, well there is a very touching story behind it, a woman named Nancy G. Brinker whose sister Susan G. Komen was dying of breast cancer and Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister that she would do everything possible to fight against the deadly breast cancer disease and to help find a cure, and this is how the “Komen for the Cure “ became so popular today, because of a promise made to a dying sister. “Komen for the Cure” is one of the largest network of breast cancer survivors and activist fighting to save lives and find a cure for breast cancer through charitable benefits such as the “Quilt Pink Day” and helping people to become more aware of how serious breast cancer is and helping them make the decision to join in the fight against breast cancer. The American Patchwork & Quilting organization is a site that is dedicated to helping quilters all over the world in improving their skills, by providing them with new techniques and showing them the creative ways that they can improve their skills, they are there to help a lending hand so to speak and to give encouragement where it is needed so quilters skilled and not so skilled can continue quilting and improving their skills with each passing day. This is was one of the sponsors of the “Pink Quilt” campaign and many of the “Pink Quilts” that are being auctioned on ebay website right now came from some of the many members of The American Patchwork & Quilting organization. Go on bid on a “Pink Quilt” it's for a worthy cause. |
